The delegation consisted of eight people total and included local business men and women and Gilbert Sister Cities’ representatives. The delegation was invited to Leshan in March by Party Secretary Tang to be part of their 2nd Annual International Tourism Expo. In addition to participating in the Expo, the delegation also visited the high-tech zone to look at potential economic development opportunities, met with officials of a local dance troupe interested in bringing a performance to Gilbert in 2016 and discussed the potential for building sister city parks in each community. Connections were also made with Leshan’s other sister cities around the world and there is the potential for economic development opportunities as well.
The delegation visited local attractions including the world’s largest stone Buddha, the Giant Buddha, the largest temple complex in Asia, a tour of Mt. Emei and received a tour of the “Green Hub” which is an area dedicated to walkers, bikers and hikers which is a model area for sustainability and encouraging the local community to exercise. The hospitality shown to the delegation in Leshan was second to none and the people were as friendly and gracious as ever.
